In Their Own Words . . .

This training is so much more than learning about the principles of yoga! Both Madia and Jessica fostered a collective of students of various backgrounds and opened doors of opportunity through education, business planning, yogic practice,... and an introduction to the incredible network of leaders in the yoga community. They promised it would change our lives and it certainly did!! I can’t wait for a 500-hour Yoga Therapy class! Please?!
Thank you Madia and Jess for such an inspiring experience with teacher training. I am so proud and grateful to be a part of your inaugural class. I consider myself a life-long student of yoga, and your extensive and compelling curriculum and insightful training, kindness and wisdom has only deepened my desire to learn more and more and more! I am so appreciative of this opportunity and am not ready for it to end! I feel like this is only the beginning! Namaste y’all!!
Just wanted to give a big thank you to Jessica, Madia and Maggie for their time and dedication to helping us evolve into strong, mindful teachers. Each of you brought something so different to the table each weekend, and I truly feel changed in more ways that I expected. From the intense emotions, the disciplined practice, and the playful time, I feel so grounded and ready to take on the world. Let’s do this!
This yoga school offers an incredibly well-rounded curriculum, covering everything from the asanas themselves and how to create sequences in various styles of yoga, to ayurveda, meditation, and business of yoga. Each class included new topics, with guest speakers like Dr. John Gwin to cover physiology and yoga as complementary medicine, and Asha Wolf, RYT DPT, whose anatomy workshop was not just insightful, but very accessible as well. I feel so well prepared to begin my path as a yoga instructor, and my initial nervousness over the journey to come has been transformed to excitement with the help of Madia and Jess as both teachers and mentors.
I just want to express my deep gratitude for the wonderful teacher training. Jess and Madia did a fantastic job on all fronts - from the curriculum, to the outstanding guest faculty and experts, to the reading, to the structure, to the sharing of their own individual areas of expertise and experience, to the facilitation of group camaraderie, connection, support and love, and certainly for sharing so much of their own beautiful selves. Also, the guest membership to the studio all these months has been a phenomenal addition to all the other benefits of the yoga school teacher training. It is a great facility filled with really great people. Thank you!!!

Not only am I a better, happier person but I’m a better trainer, wife and mother. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This popular course generally fills up.
Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis...

Your “Inner Teacher” will gradually unfold through a combination of intensive group practice and guidance, discussion, and teaching experiences.

Together, we will create a safe environment for you to explore answers and receive guidance and support in voice, touch, body alignment, learning hands-on adjustments, sequencing, and staying present.

We will study human anatomy to gain a deeper understanding of the practice of yoga asana and pranayama. Visual and hands-on techniques will allow you to discover the amazing functions of the body you live in every day.  We are happy to announce that we have our skeleton "Willow/Willy" to help with Visual learning.  Focus on postural alignment, a basic knowledge of human anatomy will deepen your physical practice and add clarity to your teaching, as well as making modifications to cater to existing injuries you may encounter.
In posture focus, we demonstrate a particular yoga pose, including alignment guidelines, verbal guidance, modifications, hands-on assists, benefits and contraindications, and then, to stabilize our learning, we practice teaching what we just learned. “Learn by doing” is a common theme you will experience throughout the course.
The chakras, vital junction points between body and consciousness, will be explored. You will understand the role of each chakra, its effect on life, and its relation to other chakras, and the use of the chakras as doorways to integration of life. With this understanding we will identify specific asanas, pranayama (breathing techniques), and bandhas (energy locks), and guided imagery for awakening, strengthening, and harmonizing the flow of shakti (energy, or life force) and awareness in and through the chakras.
You will also be introduced to a one-on-one “therapy” modality that combines knowledge of asana, pranayama, and the chakras with the gift of being deeply present in a way that supports your client in gaining inner and outer fulfillment.
The vast amount of information on Yoga Philosophy is enormous. We can’t teach it all in this course. But we can provide the knowledge that can facilitate the natural unfolding of your being. There is a verse from the Mundaka Upanishad that reads, “Know That, by knowing which, all things are known.” About 2,000 years ago, the sage Patanjali wrote in the Yoga Sutra that when the mind settles into stillness, we learn our true nature, which is unbounded. We will dive into that unboundedness. And we will explore principles that support a powerful and transformative practice.
The Yamas & Niyamas will be emphasized as the foundation of the practice.

Becoming a Yoga Teacher is a commitment you make to yourself, a commitment to integration of life – mind, body, the nervous system, humanity and nature. It is a commitment to an ever-deepening communion with the underlying Basis of all creation.

Throughout the training, you will receive personal guidance and support, as well as peer support.

This 200-hour certification program qualifies students to become a registered Yoga Teacher with the national Yoga Alliance.

Training will be held at Sports Barn's Downtown and North Yoga studio's in Chattanooga.

Training activities will be in full groups and practicum dyads and triads. Training consists of nine non-consecutive weekends.

You will be asked to have a home practice and to practice in group at different locations and with different teachers.   Those living in the Chattanooga area will attend Sports Barn Yoga Studios for classes at your convenience which is included in your tuition.  You may take as many classes a week at no charge. Those living 40 miles out of town can attend at any approved yoga center. If you do not live within 40 miles of an approved yoga class, it may be possible for you to fulfill much of this requirement using a nearby Yoga Alliance approved studio and/or yoga videos.

Registration is a two-step process to assure you and that Chattanooga Yoga School Training is appropriate for you.

You do not need to be an advanced yoga student to take the training. We are more interested in motivation, commitment and vision. Step One is to respond  to the application questions and pay deposit. Step Two consists of a brief personal interview to be scheduled once your application has been received.

The cost, including tuition, is $2850. If full payment is received by "early bird" date, you can receive $200 of full tuition.  A Payment Plan is also available.   A deposit of $300, payable to “Chattanooga Yoga School”, will reserve your space. This deposit is only refundable if the Program Director determines that the training is not appropriate for you at this time.

Otherwise, it is non-refundable. Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are acceptable for payment, as well as personal checks.
